Trial delayed in Aurora boy's death
The trial of an Aurora man charged in the murder of a 6-year-old boy has been delayed.
Nicholas Contreras was killed in an eruption of gunfire as he slept at his grandmother's home in Aurora.
The child's 1996 slaying remained an open case until late 2006, when police charged Elias Diaz with murder for allegedly acting as the driver in the shooting.
The 38-year-old's trial was to begin today. But the defense requested a delay, and it's now scheduled to begin March 31st.
Reputed gang member Mark Downs is also charged with murder in the case. He's accused of firing at the Contreras house in retaliation for another gang shooting.
