Trial date set for homeless woman charged in fatal fire

A May 7th trial date has been set for a homeless woman accused of setting a fire that killed four people in 2006.

Mary Smith is charged with 12 counts of first-degree murder, five counts of aggravated arson, two counts of arson and one count of aggravated battery for allegedly setting a fire in an apartment stairwelon March 10, 2006.

Prosecutors say Smith allegedly set the fire to warm her feet after losing her shoes.

The fire claimed the lives Jennifer Carlson, Jason Bowers, Joseph Schultz and Jerod Pilgreen -- all in their 20s.

On January 10th, Cook County Circuit Judge James Linn ruled Smith was competent to stand trial after she was first declared unfit in November 2007 when doctors testified she suffered from mental disorders
