Gunman robs Huntley bank

Police are looking for man who held up a Huntley bank Monday and fled in a silver 1995 two-door Honda with tinted windows.

The man, armed with a handgun and wearing a partial mask and black clothing, robbed Castle Bank, 11700 Route 47, at 2:25 p.m.

The man showed a teller a pistol and demanded money, police said.

He was given an undisclosed amount. No one was hurt.

The man ran two blocks into the Woodcreek residential area just south of the bank, police said. Woodcreek is mostly apartments and townhouses.

The gunman then used the Honda to escape the area with another man who was in the car, police said. The car was last seen at Woodcreek and Davey drives.

Huntley police canvassed the neighborhood and used dogs to try to track the robber.

Huntley Unit District 158 contacted parents in the Woodcreek area by phone and e-mail just after 3 p.m. to notify them of the robbery.

About three buses to the Woodcreek area were held back, and parents who live in the area had to pick up their kids from school, Superintendent John Burkey said.

FBI agents are also investigating the robbery because robbing a bank is a federal crime, police said.

Police said eight to 10 people were in the bank at the time of the robbery. They did not know how many were bank customers and how many were employees.

Residents in the Woodcreek area said they were concerned for their safety and the safety of their kids.

"I am worried because if they don't catch him tonight, my aunt lives here and has two kids," Huntley resident Jeffrey Allen said.

Allen was at his aunt's Woodcreek residence Monday afternoon to walk her dog.

"The first thing I did when I got here is check the garage and check the door," Allen said.

Police said nearby residents shouldn't be concerned.

"It appears he's out of the area," Police Chief John Perkins said.
