Harper: Revive the plant science class

The Arlington Heights Garden Club was disappointed with the recent decision to discontinue the plant science technology program at Harper College.

In the past, our club has provided scholarships to students enrolled in this program. We checked with officials at Harper College about the reasons for this decision and were told enrollment has been low, indicating a lack of interest.

We find this perplexing, considering the current emphasis on promoting a greener environment. In the future, Harper College plans to offer some of the plant science classes through its continuing education program.

The Garden Club hopes that community members will take advantage of these offerings.

Supporting horticulture programs is extremely important at this critical stage of our country's ongoing development, and we must never take educational opportunities for granted and expect that they will always be available.
