Education seminar set:

"Twice-exceptional" children will be the subject of a free seminar for parents and educators Tuesday at the Norris Cultural Arts Center, 1040 Dunham Road, St. Charles. Cathy Risberg of Minds That Soar LLC in Palatine will present "Celebrating the Differences: Creating Understanding, Support and Advocacy for Your Twice-Exceptional Child" at 6:30 p.m. Twice-exceptional children are defined as those who have learning disabilities that interfere with their academic potential. The seminar is being hosted by the parent-led Gifted-Talented Resource Group in District 303.

'Stone Soup' performance

Second-grade students at Elgin Academy will present "Stone Soup," a musical about a village of peasants and a group of soldiers who learn about the importance of sharing. Second-graders have been working most of the winter on the production, which involves costume, song and dance, as well as a big pot of soup. The production will begin at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in the second-floor Rider Room of Sears Hall on the Elgin Academy campus at 350 N. Park St., Elgin.

Files to be destroyed

The temporary file for all members of the 2002 class of Geneva High School will be destroyed during the week of March 24. According to Illinois law, a student's record belongs exclusively to the student upon his or her 18th birthday. Students can pick up their file in person at the counseling office with an identification, or provide their parent with written permission and a photocopy of an I.D. Poker tourney to help pets

The Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin is sponsoring a Texas Hold'em poker tournament April 4 at the St. Charles Country Club, 1250 Country Club Road, St. Charles, to raise money for the shelter that serves 3,400 animals a year. The cost of the tournament is $125 and includes a tournament seat and a large buffet. Spectator tickets are $35. The event begins at 6:30 p.m. with a reception and first deal is 7:05 p.m. Top prize is $1,500 and there are five payouts. East photos on exhibit:

An exhibit of black-and-white photos by St. Charles East High School students is on display at Holiday Camera, 221 W. State St., Geneva. The exhibit is expected to run for several months. Viewing is 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Call (630) 232-7742.
