Mother Son Night: At the Mother Son Night "Wonderful Wizard Celebration," young wizards and their mothers can team up for relay races, magic tricks, crafts and concocting their own ice cream sundaes, then, top off the evening with a special performance by magician Gary Kantor. Mother Son Night will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Robert W. Rolek Community Center, and costs $29 per pair.
Go Girl Go: This special girls-only program tackles issues facing young girls like peer pressure, low self-esteem and fear of competition in a fun and interactive way. This eight-week camp is designed for girls in third through eighth grade. It provides information about physical and emotional growth through games, sports, activities such as journal writing, a healthy eating demonstration, sharing experiences and building friendships and confidence. All activities will be based on the Go Girl Go Educational Curriculum developed by the Women's Sports Foundation. Learn more about this special program at a free open house at 1 p.m. May 10 at the Sports Center. The actual eight-week camp will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays, April 12 through May 31.
Children's Neighborhood Museum: The Children's Neighborhood Museum has a child-sized replica of a town built for kids; a place where they can drive a car to the grocery store, gas up at the local gas station, be a pizza stand owner or a rock star on stage. In the "backyard," they can climb, crawl and slide in a safe environment. The museum is open from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The museum also is open afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays and evenings on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; hours vary, so call (847) 546-8558 for details. Admission is $5 per child.
