Northwestern students raise $1 mil at dance marathon

More than 750 students at Northwestern University have raised nearly $1 million for charities at this year's school dance marathon.

The money will go to the Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation and the Evanston Community Foundation. The cancer foundation will use the money for research grants and cancer patients.

The community foundation will use funds to distribute grants to community organizations. Northwestern student couples raised $800 to dance in the 30-hour marathon that ended Sunday morning.

Last year about 600 students raised just more than $700,000.
