Horseplay kills Peoria man
Police in Peoria say a 21-year-old student at Bradley University is dead after a friend allegedly pushed him into traffic.
The friend is charged with involuntary manslaughter. The Peoria County coroner says Robert M. Hurt of Pontiac died early Sunday morning of severe head injuries. Police say there was "horseplay and shoving" as Hurt and his friend, 19-year-old Brandon W. Gish of Pontiac, walked down the street.
Hurt was pushed into traffic and hit by a passing car. He died about an hour later at a nearby hospital.
He was a junior majoring in mechanical engineering. Police say Gish was arrested and cited for consumption of alcohol by a minor. He is being held in custody at the Peoria County jail awaiting a hearing.
