Grayslake woman killed in Lake Villa 2-car crash
A Grayslake woman was killed Sunday and three other injured after a two-car crash at Rollins Road and Route 45 in Lake Villa.
Lake County sheriff's police accident investigator Tyler Schimanski said Alyssa Perna, 20, was killed when the 1995 Pontiac she was driving was struck by a car headed in the opposite direction.
According to Schimanski, Perna, along with her sister Lauren and another passenger, were headed west on Rollins about 3:20 p.m. Perna was getting ready to turn south onto Route 45, when Schimanski said she was hit by a 2002 Chrysler going east on Rollins.
"It was right there in the intersection," Schimanski said.
The two passengers in Perna's car, Alexander Longshore, 21, of Lake Villa and Lauren Perna, 18, of Grayslake, were both injured in the crash and transported to Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
A passenger in the other car, Sonia J. McGuinn, 56, of Lake Villa, was also injured and transported to Condell.
Officials at Condell would provide patient condition updates Sunday night.
According to Alyssa Perna's account on the social networking site Facebook, she was currently attending Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. On a post she left on a friend's account, she said she was in the area this weekend after coming home for the school's spring break vacation.
Schimanski said no citations have been issued, however the crash remains under investigation.
He said the intersection at Rollins and Route 45 was closed for about 90 minutes while crews cleaned up the crash.
