Elgin woman killed in hit-and-run

A 23-year-old Elgin woman was killed early Sunday morning in an apparent hit-and-run accident, Chicago police said.

Ashley Brown and an unidentified 26-year-old Chicago woman were crossing South State Street at 75th Street when they were hit by a Dodge Magnum about 1:20 a.m.

Brown was pronounced dead at 1:59 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago. The unidentified woman was being treated at Northwestern for a fractured leg.

The Dodge Magnum, police said, fled the scene and was last seen heading north on the Dan Ryan Expressway. Police did not have further details about the vehicle or the driver.

Police said they weren't sure if Brown and the other woman who was hit knew each other.

The violent crimes unit of the Chicago police is investigating the incident.
