Police dog's nose sniffs out marijuana hidden in ceiling

A basement ceiling was a good hiding place for marijuana until a Carpentersville police dog sniffed it out on Thursday, officials said.

Zesati Cruz, 22, of 106 Mora Road, Carpentersville, was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to deliver and possession of marijuana after the discovery of 160.22 grams, police said.

Carpentersville's SWAT team descended on the Mora Road address at 9:30 p.m. Thursday with a Kane County warrant for Cruz on a charge of possession of marijuana and a search warrant.

They found nothing after searching the basement where Cruz lived, but at the end of the search, a dog unit gave an indication that something might be in the ceiling, police said.

The ceiling tiles were removed and a cardboard box containing nearly 6 ounces of marijuana was found, police said.

Cruz posted $800 bond was given a March 24 date in drug court at the Kane County Judicial Center.
