It's time for reform in funding, taxes

The time is now for property-education tax reform. This state has yet to make an effort in solving this problem. It is of importance to those on fixed incomes. I believe there are homeowners having a difficult time even in Kane County. As these taxes have risen one does feel pushed into a corner and our voices not heard.

One would like to believe we have contributed to society in educating your and my own children. Education costs were considerably less when my children were in public school. Education costs, pensions, salaries and other administrative tack-ons require us as citizens to monitor as best we can.

I am reminded in St. Charles alone the latest superintendent was given a new car as part of his salary package. As a taxpayer, I do not see the purpose of doing this with our money. What is next? This is one example of excess and needless spending.

It would be worth considering a voucher discount to the senior population off our education tax bill, the largest part of our bill. This savings alone could help individuals with their needs. It might be just the difference in keeping their home.

When can we expect from our local and state governments some reform on how education is financed?
