Guns are solution, not the problem

In the March 2 edition of the Herald, Ms. Bast states, "If anyone who feels citizens have the right to bear many arms can answer the questions posed in my previous letter with a reasonable answer, I will back down on my stance…for tighter gun control." Well here's a reason.

A nutcase busts into a room with a gun intent on killing as many people as he can. Several law abiding citizens carrying concealed guns stop him dead in his tracks.

No one except the killer gets killed. It just happened a while back in Colorado at a church.

There is a very simple, effective solution. It's called the second amendment. And I'll say that with impunity because the very same things were happening in the 1950s and '60s in Israel.

Arabs were opening fire on and mowing down scores of Israeli's. Then Israel passed a law allowing both concealed and open carry of fully automatic guns by its citizens. The shootings stopped real fast.

In the 20th century, the most war-torn in history, 35 million uniformed troops died in battle. That number exceeds all casualties for all previous wars combined.

A pittance compared to 300 million innocent citizens killed by their own governments in that same century by Stalin, Mao and Hitler.

I will die before being disarmed.

You state, "I ask those who feel it's their right to bear arms, if a person broke in your home and shot your family, would you still feel our gun laws are adequate?"

He'd be carried out of my house full of .45 caliber holes, so I guess our gun laws function just fine in that they protect honest citizens.

You seem to think that criminals turn in their guns.

You seem to think in a disarmed society no one has guns. No.

Disarmament disarms law-

abiding citizens while the criminals roam free.

Sorry, that's unacceptable.

Better we should require every citizen to carry a gun.
