A decade for dismantling nuclear plant
Officials of Exelon Nuclear say it could take up to 10 years to dismantle the closed Zion nuclear plant and return the site to its natural state. Exelon has hired a private company to move up the timetable for decommissioning the plant, which closed 10 years ago. The Nuclear Regulatory Agency must approve any plan for decommissioning the plant. A proposal to dismantle the closed Zion nuclear plant will be up for discussion during a public forum Thursday. Exelon has hired EnergySolutions Inc. of Salt Lake City to decommission the plant.
