Let's get support for Geneva pool

On Wednesday, March 19th at 7 p.m. at Geneva Middle School North, there is a public forum scheduled by the Geneva Community School District 304.

The objective of this public forum is to discuss the potential of an indoor swimming pool to be built in our community.

I believe the school district feels that a pool is not important to our community. I say "not so!" Water safety is, and should be, a huge concern for our community.

As our fair town of Geneva is located in the middle of a river, we do not support or provide a means to teach our residents to swim. Unfortunately, the tragedy of a drowning is always present, especially with the increase popularity of water parks. Education is the only way to avoid this unfortunate accident.

An indoor aquatic center would provide a vehicle to water safety and education. It could provide swim lessons to all our Geneva residents! It would provide a location for exercise, fitness and aquatic sports.

Currently the only option to a swim lesson is to drive to another community, belong to an expensive private exercise facility, or take swim lessons in the few weeks of summer at our outdoor Sunset pool. An indoor aquatic center could also enhance the physical education programs offered in our school district.

As a concerned resident of Geneva for over 20 years, I am asking any and all residents of our fine community of Geneva to join me at the public forum March 19 and show your support in investing in our community with an indoor aquatic center! This is our opportunity, let's not pass it up!
