Warehouse theft brings guilty plea from Mundelein man
A Mundelein man was sentenced to 30 months probation Wednesday after he admitted stealing electronic equipment and selling it on the Internet.
Richard Dodge, 40, also forfeited $11,000 in profits police said he made selling stolen computers and other devices.
Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton said Dodge, of 327 Walnut Court, stole the merchandise from a UPS facility in Palatine where he once worked as a security guard.
A police investigation began last year when one of Motorola's security agents purchased a stolen computer from Dodge through eBay.
Dodge admitted he had been going to the facility to steal computers that he sold online for about six months prior to his arrest in January 2007.
Dodge was also fined $500, ordered to perform 200 hours of community service and repay Motorola $5,684.
Stanton said the forfeited money will be split between the Mundelein Police Department and her office equally.
