Basketball

Emmons Tournament: The seventh-grade girls at Millburn School in Wadsworth recently took third place at the annual Emmons Tournament.

The Mustangs started by beating St. Bede of Ingleside 29-21. After posting a 27-14 victory over St. Patrick of Wadsworth the Mustangs advanced to the semi-finals. Millburn lost a game by a 34-25 score to the eventual champion, St. Francis of Lake Zurich.

Mustangs took on the Johnsburg Red for second place. Millburn tried to keep it close but eventually lost 37-24 and ended up in third place. The Mustangs had a 12-3 record for the season.

Ellie Gallo was named to the All-Tournament Team. The Mustang roster also included Amanda Timmerman, Tatiana Katres, Nicole Mogged, Krysten Gross, Meghan Busky, Madeline Bond, Joanna Guhl, Katie Peterson, Sarah Norkus, Meredith Shirley and Katie Riley.

Gymnastics

Invitational winners: The Level 4 and Level 6 teams from North Shore Gymnastics in Lake Forest recently participated in the Itasca Gymnastics Invitational. Eight-year-old Laken Ritzert of Lake Forest walked away with top honors in the Level 4 division. She placed first on all four events, making her the all around champion as well.

In the Level 4 10-year-old division, Madeleine Collins of Lake Forest won vault and placed second all around. The Level 4 girls swept uneven bars as Laken Ritzert placed first, Chapin Grumhaus of Lake Forest placed second and Rachel Weis of Libertyville placed third in the 8-and-under age group.

Three of the four specialty awards were won by North Shore Level 6 girls. Isabella Armstrong of Wilmette won best form on beam, Laura Blake of Lake Forest won best swing on uneven bars and Devin Shannon won best leaps on floor. Isabella Armstrong also won the all around and Devin Shannon placed first on beam.

Hockey

Stevenson vs. New Trier: The Stevenson Junior Varsity team fell behind 2-0 during the first half of their game against New Trier. The Patriots fought back with a power play goal near the end of the second period on a shot by Jake Gould which was tipped by Ricky Razdolsky, narrowing the score to 2-1.

The Patriots scored again just over a minute into the third period on a shot by Brad Levinson to tie the game at 2-2. New Trier took the lead again about three minutes later, and Stevenson wasn't able to score again, finishing the regular season with a 3-2 loss to New Trier.

Overall, the Patriots finished with a record of 30-8-6, including a record of 15-2-3 in Metro North, 7-4-2 in HIT and 7-1-1 in tournament play, winning the Winnetka Christmas tournament.
