Innocent plea to e-mail threat

Two former Mundelein High School students accused of e-mailing bomb threats to the school pleaded not guilty Wednesday in Lake County circuit court.

James Voss and Dylan Britt, both 17, are charged with falsely making a terrorist threat. They face up to 15 years in prison, if convicted.

Lake County Assistant State's Attorney Mary Stanton said Britt, of 1314 Marlbourgh Court, sent the first message at about 9:59 a.m. on Jan. 25 using a school-owned computer.

The e-mail was sent to top administrators at the school, she said.

Britt is accused of then sending a text message to Voss at his home at 1104 W. Crystal St., instructing him to send a follow-up message.

Police said Voss e-mailed that message at 11:55 a.m. to the same administrators.

The school was locked down for the day as authorities investigated and determined the threats were not legitimate.

Both were released from custody after posting $10,000 cash bond. Both are scheduled to appear in court April 7.
