Elmhurst man killed in one-car crash
A 33-year-old Elmhurst man was killed in a car crash near First Street and West Avenue in Elmhurst after his car struck a large cement block, police said Wednesday.
Brian Johnson was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after police arrived around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday. The cause of the one-car accident is under investigation.
"It's still early in the investigation," Elmhurst Deputy Police Chief Dominic Panico said. "We really don't want to speculate until we have all the information."
Police said they believe Johnson was speeding and lost control of his car while traveling west on First and attempting to turn onto northbound West. His car struck a large cement block and part of a fence near the Elmhurst Chicago Stone Quarry, Panico said.
It could be weeks before the toxicology reports are available.
