Blackhawks announce scholarship recipients
The Chicago Blackhawk Alumni Association, under the direction of president Cliff Koroll, have announced their 2008 Keith Magnuson Blackhawk Alumni Scholarship recipients. This year's honorees are Adam Goldblatt from Glenbrook North, Sean Mills from Neuqua Valley and Daniel Moir from Naperville North.
Each of the winners will receive a scholarship of $5,000 per year for four years and will be welcomed into the Blackhawk Alumni mentoring program. As part of the mentoring program they will be linked with a Blackhawk Alumni Associate Member and a former Alumni scholarship recipient to assist them in an advisory and fellowship capacity as they proceed through their undergraduate years.
Since the inception of the Blackhawk Alumni Scholarship Fund in 1987, the Blackhawk Alumni have awarded over $750,000 to deserving state of Illinois high school hockey players. The recipients are selected on the merits of their academic strength, community service commitment both in and out of school, overall contribution to their respective teams, and financial need.
The 2008 boys and girls All-Scholastic Teams have also been announced by the Blackhawk Alumni. The All-Scholastic Teams are chosen by a committee of high school coaches. The boys' team selection committee is led by former NHL player Brian Noonan, head coach at Naperville North High School. The girls' team selection committee is led by Annie Camins, head coach at Loyola Academy, and Myles Gottainer, head coach at Glenbrook Combined.
Both committees selected the top two defenseman, top three forwards and the top goalie from all of high school hockey in the state of Illinois. The All-Scholastic Teams selection focuses solely on the player's on ice abilities and talents along with the player's contribution to their team as a player, an on-ice leader and a teammate.
