Don't make use of plastic or paper bags
Ralph W. Conner from the Heartland Institute believes everyone should not only use, but embrace the use of plastic bags. According to his Feb. 26 letter to the editor, anyone who tries to thwart the use of plastic bags is dabbling in "policy tomfoolery."
Gee, do you think the Heartland Institute represents the plastics industry? Why else would they be pushing for people to use more plastic bags; bags which clutter landfills, end up in our bodies of water killing marine life when ingested, and use oil to manufacture?
The only point I agree with Mr. Conner on is that paper bags are not the solution. However, there is one simple solution of what to pack our purchases in when we shop at the store. Bring your own bag! It's that simple.
I've had more and more grocery clerks tell me when they see my canvas bags that they have see an increase in the amount of people bringing their own bags. By doing so, you are not only saving resources but helping make a cleaner planet!
