Give to 'Scouting for Food' drive

Hundreds of Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts in Lake County will collect food donations to help needy families with their "Scouting for Food" drive. On March 1, Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts delivered plastic food collection bags to front doors of homes throughout Lake County and northern Cook County. On Saturday, the Scouts will retrace their steps, collecting the filled bags from the homes. Residents are encouraged to place canned goods and other nonperishable food donations in the bags.

Sunset Food stores and the Northern Illinois Food Bank are partnering with the Boy Scouts in this effort. Sunset Foods provided 120,000 bags for the Scouts to deliver to homes and also is using these bags in stores to help encourage shoppers to participate. Collection barrels for food donations will be at the Sunset Food Stores through Monday.

For more information about "Scouting for Food" or the Boy Scouts of America, call the Northeast Illinois Council of the Boy Scouts of America at (847) 433-1813 or visit www.neic.org.
