Police unable to identify man struck, killed on I-90

In hopes of identifying him, police this morning fingerprinted a man who was hit and killed late Tuesday on Interstate 90.

"We're hoping to know by today so we can notify the next of kin," said Master Sgt. David Furjanic of the District 15 State Police department.

A person driving a Toyota Camry struck and killed the man at around 10:45 p.m. Tuesday on westbound I-90, now known as the Jane Addams Tollway, just east of Route 53 near Arlington Heights.

A witness told authorities the man was struck as he was trying to cross the westbound lanes of I-90 on foot, Furjanic said.

Police believe the man was driving a van that had been abandoned on the shoulder of I-90. Police are not sure if the man owned the van.

Police found no identification on the victim or inside the van, Furjanic said. A Cook County medical examiner's office representative said the man is believed to be in his 40s. The office is conducting an autopsy today.

The driver of the Camry was not injured and will not be criminally charged, Furjanic said.

All westbound lanes of I-90 were blocked at Arlington Heights Road and all north and southbound ramps to Arlington Heights Road were blocked on Tuesday night while emergency crews investigated.
