New makeup and skin products give you a head start
Skin looking a bit dull?
Since the sun hasn't been around to provide us any glow, perhaps we can rely on these makeup products to help.
• Two things to love about the new Mini Bourjois Mini Loose Powder Eye Shadows:
1) If you don't have a brush handy, you can apply it with your finger.
2) They are tiny jars, so you don't get bored with one color and don't have to invest much. ($8 at Ulta and Sephora)
Also new from Bourjois is makeup you can wear/take clubbing -- including the aptly named Volume Clubbing Mascara, Volume Clubbing Liner and a line of mini lipsticks. ($16-$17 at Ulta and Sephora).
• EcoTools sells a beautiful and Earth-friendly set of makeup brushes that feature bamboo handles and animal-free taklon bristles -- and the cost is less than some of the fancy department store brushes. ($1.99-$7.99 each, at Walgreens, Kmart and Ulta).
Best of all, the company kicks back 1 percent of its profits to environmental groups.
• L'Oreal has a lot of new products this spring, and they all have super-long names.
They might not make you look like celebrity spokesmodels Penelope Cruz and Eva Longoria, but they still might be worth a try. Highlights include the L'Oreal Paris Sublime Bronze ProPerfect Airbrush Self-Tanning Mist and Lotion ($9.99 at chain drug and food stores), the Telescopic Clean Definition Mascara ($8.15), and the new hair color line, Superior Preference Dream Blonde Complete Color & Care System ($14.99).
The products are now being sold at chain drug and food stores.
New from Clinique
• Red was the hot color at the Oscars this year, but it's not such a hot color if it's on your face. Clinique's new Redness Solutions helps women with ultra-sensitive skin deal with redness that develops as a result of things like cold wind and post-beauty-treatment swelling. The set of creams also includes an "urgent relief cream." ($20.50-$39.50).
• It takes a system to zap a zit. Clinique's new Acne Solutions Clear Skin System is a daily regimen designed for acne-prone skin. The products include cleansers, clarifiers and moisturizers ($32.50).
• Clinique's new Supermoisture Makeup is billed as a moisturizing foundation for dry- to combination-skinned women ($22.50 for a 30 ml tube).
These Clinique products are available at major department stores.
