South Elgin fire destroys garage, SUV
A garage fire caused about $210,000 in damage to a South Elgin house around 2:59 p.m. Monday, officials said.
South Elgin and Countryside Fire Protection District firefighters were called to 362 Cornwall Ave. after a resident of the house smelled smoke and then found the garage on fire, officials said.
The woman evacuated the house with two children. No one was injured.
Fire consumed the garage and destroyed a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer parked inside, officials said. Smoke and heat also damaged the living room of the house.
Several local fire departments assisted. The cause of the fire is under investigation, but is not suspicious.
