District 220 to decide new attendance maps tonight

After more than a year, the process of redrawing elementary attendance boundaries in Barrington Area Unit District 220 could be coming to a close.

School board members are scheduled to vote tonight on which of four proposals they like best and will implement next year.

Tonight's meeting is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Barrington High School, 616 W. Main Street.

At its last meeting, school board members indicated they favored Map G, which would reassign five areas, with about 132 students total, to different schools next year.

The largest of those areas is in South Barrington north of Mundhank Road, east of Barrington Road and south of Palatine Road.Another issue that could be decided tonight is how to deal with the issue of "grandfathering" in students when the changes are made. The board is considering allow fifth-graders, and maybe even fourth-graders, to remain at current schools after the changes go into effect.
