Film discussion: The Film Discussion Circle features "Shakespeare in Love" at 1 p.m. today at the Arlington Heights Senior Center, 1801 W. Central Road. Following the free movie, there is a discussion about the movie led by Ted Balcom and refreshments. Drop in; no registration needed.
Historical tea party: In celebration of Women's History Month, step back in time to a tea party with Susan B. Anthony and Elizabeth C. Stanton from 2-4 p.m. Friday, in the Hendrickson room.
These champions of women's rights will be portrayed by actresses Lynn Rymarz and Jeanmarie Dwyer-Wrigley as they share the dreams, joys and struggles of fighting to help women gain the right to vote. There will be a tea sampling and refreshments while Gretchen Iler from Tea Safari talks about "Tea -- A Ceremony of Life." The audience will also get to sample one of Susan B's favorite recipes. Sunday Musicale: The Sunday Musicale at 2 p.m. Sunday features American Art Songs and Arias with award-winning vocalist Genevieve Thiers. 'Hobbitt' book group: The popular Sunday book discussion group continues its journey through literature by reading "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy by author J.R.R. Tolkien. The group meets from 3 to 4:30 p.m. March 9 and April 13, in the Lindsey room. For the March 9 session, read half of "The Hobbit." History of governor's mansion: Artist Laureate of Illinois Kay Smith presents her watercolor paintings at the lecture on "The Illinois Governor's Mansion: A Social History" at 7:30 p.m. March 10 in the Hendrickson room. She will relate some of the real-life sorties from her book about the events and people at this historic site and her book will be available for sale and signing. I Can Read: Celebrate your new reader during "I Can Read," a month-long celebration in Kids' World. After reading aloud to a librarian, each participating child will receive a Polaroid snapshot and a magnetic "I Can Read" picture frame, courtesy of the Friends of the Library. This program runs through March 22 on Mondays and Tuesdays, 4-5 p.m.; Thursdays, 6-7 p.m.; and Saturdays, 4-5 p.m. For more information, call the Kids' World desk at (847) 506-2620.
March exhibits: During March, the gallery features Visual Expressions by Jim Meade. Display cases include model and toy trains by Adam Mead, Artworks by the Arlington Heights Park District Children at Play Art Enhancement students, and the Anatomy of a Children's Book by Laura D'Argo and Gregory Leifel.
