Fukudome armed, but not ready with the bat

MESA, Ariz. -- Kosuke Fukudome looks to be completely over the elbow problems that cut short his 2007 season in Japan.

Fukudome fired a couple of lasers to third base from right field during an 8-6 loss to the Giants on Sunday.

He didn't throw out the runners, but the throws were strong.

"I'm very confident my elbow is 100 percent," he said through his translator.

At the plate, it's a bit of a different story. Fukudome was 0-for-3 Sunday. For the spring, he's 1-for-5 with 3 walks.

"I'm trying to do things here and there at the plate," he said. "I can't say everything is good, but it should come around."
