Disappointed by 50th birthday plans

Let's sit back and watch history pass right by! We have a golden opportunity to boost our village and set precedents for others to emulate. We're letting it slip through our fingers!

What happened to the pride, where is the glory from all the awards Buffalo Grove has garnished nationwide? This year a milestone will occur, 50 years in the making. So we've selected cookie-cutter ceremonies and nothing over the edge. More significantly not an ounce of human compassion and initiative that has made our country what it was once. Buffalo Grove is losing its edge!

Yes, we have a diverse community with many amenities and village-based infrastructures. You know it, but how many outside our circle are aware of it? This is a favorable window that closes fast for Buffalo Grove to raise above the cluster of wannabes.

I am not a sore citizen that is disappointed that most of my ideas that appeared months ago in the newspapers were passed over. I was only hoping to stimulate the populace with a celebration like no other.

I'm sure many people worked hard to set up planned events here. I don't want to diminish their efforts. Without their sacrifice, we'd never have a chance of succeeding, that's an advantage we have.

Mrs. Bush wrote to me from the White House to "focus my energies in my community for significant impact" and that I shall. Former governor Edgar wrote to me that he "admires courage in facing obstacles" and so do I. Sen. Obama wrote to me he took heart "that the type of society we leave our children and grandchildren is of major importance" and I agree. Former President Clinton wrote to me agreeing with my thoughts "to guaranteeing our country a prosperous future."

Man, my family really loves Buffalo Grove! In the coming weeks if allowed, I will again initiate some ideas to celebrate and elevate us to glory. No, I'm not running for public office. I am just like you, wanting more for all of us and doing it with heart!

Is anybody else out there listening?
