Sherman to open new pediatric unit
Sherman Hospital has announced the grand opening of its new, dedicated pediatric unit.
In celebration, Sherman will host an open house in the unit from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday. Attendees can tour and learn about the new unit, and attend a ribbon cutting ceremony at 1:30 p.m.
"For years, our pediatric patients shared a unit with our adult patients," said Michelle Herman, manager of adult medical/pediatrics at Sherman Hospital. "We are very excited about the opening of our new pediatric unit.
"We will be providing specialized care to our pediatric patients in an environment that is comforting and designed completely with kids in mind."
Fun and welcoming to children, the jungle themed unit includes 13 private rooms, a play room, a teen area, a family dining room, and comfortable accommodations for families.
The unit will be a protected area requiring patients and visitors to request access upon entering and exiting.
In addition to allowing pediatricians to provide patients with specialized care, the new unit serves to support Sherman's partnership with Children's Memorial Hospital. Sherman Hospital is currently home to five Children's Memorial hospitalists, one of which will be available in the pediatric unit 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Here, the hospitalists will offer assistance in pediatric related services and emergencies.
