Elk Grove-area fire costs millions

The cause of the fire at the strip mall in Elk Grove Township is still under investigation, authorities said Sunday.

Investigators believe that the fire, which caused more than $5 million in damages, started in the Jujuani Electronics store before 7 a.m. Saturday.

It made its way into the attic and then spread throughout the entire strip mall that houses almost 10 businesses at 2501 E. Oakton. No one was injured.

The electronics store had no smoke detectors or sprinkler system, authorities said.
