Violence results from societal decay

At this time, many opinions have been spoken about the latest major local violent outbreak at NIU. I think for me, hearing about the Saturday morning shootings at Lane Bryant really got me thinking.

People speak of gun control, mental health issues, perhaps the film media's effect on people.

I am concerned about the general decay of our society. Lack of respect, simple common courtesies, are all being thrown to the wayside in favor of the me-first attitude.

What is not practiced by the elders cannot be passed on the next generation of people.

Falling back to basic principles, knowing that there is something greater than ourselves, could prove beneficial in our daily living. Life is hard enough without making it more difficult for those around you.

I hope we have time to turn this around. I also pray for all the people touched by this latest rash of violence.
