Dryer catches fire at Condell
A fire in a laundry room is being blamed for heavy smoke Saturday evening at Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
Officials at Libertyville Fire Department said patients were not evacuated because of the small fire that started about 5:30 p.m.
Condell spokeswoman Jodi Levine said the small fire started in one of the dryers and was quickly put out by staff members.
She said, however, there was heavy smoke that billowed in some areas of the hospital.
"Thankfully, no one was injured," she said. "We also did not have to move anyone in the hospital because it did not take place near any patient care areas."
She added some items put in the dryer is what ignited.
She said while some patients may have been disrupted by the fire alarms, no one was ever in any danger.
"It was never disruptive to patient care," she said.
