Two men charged after robbery, break-in in Palatine

Two men are facing armed robbery and home invasion charges after Palatine police said they stole another man's money and keys and then broke into his home in search of more items.

Police said Prenis Lowery, 24, of 2131 S. 15th Ave. in Broadview, and Darvis Lowery, 27, of 1727 S. Sawyer Ave. in Chicago, picked up a 22-year-old acquaintance from Chicago Thursday and told him they were taking him to a party in Rockford.

En route to Rockford around 2:55 a.m., the men stopped in the Barrington Woods subdivision in Palatine, the victim told police.

Prenis Lowery, police said, then pointed a handgun at the victim and told him to get out of the car and to hand over his keys, cell phone, money and shoes.

Police said they also asked the victim for the location of a safe inside his home in Chicago.

The two men then left the area, police said, leaving the victim behind.

The victim called Palatine police, who then contacted Chicago police to warn them of the possible burglary at the victim's home.

Chicago police arrived at the victim's home and found both Lowerys in the process of breaking in, authorities said. Authorities did not indicate if the men are related.

Palatine Cmdr. Kurt Schroeder said the two men were charged by local authorities with armed robbery and with home invasion by Chicago police.

The Lowerys were scheduled to appear in a Chicago bond court Friday. Police did not have immediate information on that hearing.
