District 23 looking for new board member

The Prospect Heights School District 23 board is looking for a new member who'd be voting on building repairs, expanding the foreign language curriculum and deciding whether to offer full-day kindergarten.

Board member Thomas Klingner recently told the board he's stepping down, Supt. Greg Guarrine said.

Whoever takes Klingner's spot will have some interesting topics to vote on in the coming months, he said.

The district will be looking at whether to offer foreign languages besides Spanish at MacArthur Middle School.

All-day kindergarten will be considered at Anne Sullivan, Betsy Ross and Dwight D. Eisenhower elementary schools, he said.

The district also will be determining which school buildings to revamp in the coming years, he said.

Those applying must be district residents. The board will conduct interviews between March 12 and 14, he said. The board expects to make the appointment by March 28.

Klingner had wanted to step down last year when his term was up. But due to the unexpected death of board President William Caputo, the board persuaded him to take up Caputo's term, which ends in 2009.

Send resumes by March 7 to Judi Zimmerman, board president, Prospect Heights School District 23, 700 N. Schoenbeck Road, Prospect Heights, IL 60070.

For more information, call the district at (847) 870-3850.
