Pay your water bill on Wheeling Web site

A few weeks ago I wrote about how all the board meetings in Wheeling are available to view online.

The board was given a presentation Monday on how to use that technology, and a new function of the Web site was also shown off.

Residents can now use the "eGovPlus" system to pay water bills online.

Plus, the site also has a live stream of the construction of the new village hall.

All three new functions are available at the main page of www.vi.wheeling.il.us.

Fond farewell: Members of the Chicago Executive Airport board bid adieu to director Ralph Shepstone last week.

Shepstone is retiring from the board and attended his last board meeting last Wednesday.

He was first appointed to the board by Prospect Heights in the 1980s. He was away from the board for seven years when he lived overseas, but he was reappointed in 1995.

"I have learned an incredible amount," Shepstone said.

He also complimented Dennis Rouleau, the manager of the airport.

"He is a man skilled in every aspect of this airport," he said. "He is a man for whom I have the greatest personal praise."

Prospect Heights has appointed Luis Mendez, a former city alderman, to take Shepstone's spot. Mendez will officially be a member of the board Saturday.

Mark your calendars: It's a little bit down the road, but the South Lake County Regional Community Emergency Response Team will be holding a pancake breakfast in April.

The event will be from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Long Grove fire department, 1165 Old McHenry Road.

The federal CERT program was started recently in the area to have community volunteers help out firefighters and police in cases of disasters.

The program provides basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization and disaster medical operations.

The pancake breakfast fundraiser will help the CERT program. It will also include a live musical performance by Thomas Swenson, a silent auction, raffle and kids' safety puppet show.

For information on the breakfast, call the fire station at (847) 634-3035 or e-mail dhardy@comcast.net.

Voice your opinion: The Buffalo Grove Park District will be holding a public hearing on an impending dog park 7 p.m. March 10 in Room 10 of the Alcott Center, 530 Bernard Drive, Buffalo Grove.

The park is proposed on a ComEd right of way, south of the detention basin on the south end of the parking lot at the train station.

For those who can't make the meeting, the district will also be collecting feedback on its Web site, www.bgparkdistrict.org.
