Eleven hurt in crash near Oswego

Two women and nine children were injured during a three-car accident outside Oswego, Will County sheriff deputies reported Wednesday night.

Pat Barry, a spokesman with the Will County Sheriff's Department, said a female was driving a Chevrolet Suburban and two children southbound on Normantown Road just south of Rahm Road at 5:12 p.m., when the vehicle sideswiped a second vehicle heading in the opposite direction.

After striking the second vehicle, the Suburban slid out of control before hitting a minivan driven by a second female head on. There were seven children in the minivan, Barry said.

He said the driver of the minivan was airlifted from the scene to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where she is listed in critical condition. The children in the minivan were transported from the scene to Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora with injuries.

He said one child from the minivan was airlifted from Rush-Copley to Loyola Medical Center in Maywood and is in critical condition.

He said the woman driving the Suburban and her two children were transported to Edward Healthcare Center in Yorkville with nonlife-threatening injuries.

Police have not released the identities, ages or towns of the people injured in the crash.

He said the Will County Traffic Division is investigating the crash to see why the Suburban crossed into the northbound lanes. He added no citations have been issued at this point.
