Chicago's plowing budget in red
There are four weeks left to spring and already the city of Chicago has exceeded its $18.5 million snow removal budget for the winter, and that's not counting the cost of Monday's storm. From Jan. 1 to Feb. 18, the streets and sanitation department spent $20 million on snow removal. That's $1.5 million more than is budgeted to last all year. Streets and sanitation spokesman Matt Smith said the current winter is about 88 percent snowier than last winter with more than 50 inches of snow at O'Hare and mid-50s at Midway.
