'Jersey Boys' to stay in Chicago

The record-setting touring production of "Jersey Boys" which settled into an extended stay following its triumphant October debut at the LaSalle Bank Theatre, will make Chicago its permanent home, producer Michael David announced Wednesday.

Stars Jarrod Spector (Frankie Valli), Jeremy Kushnier (Tommy DeVito), Michael Ingersoll (Nick Massi) and Drew Gehling (Bob Gaudio) remain with the Chicago cast.

In a prepared statement, David expressed appreciation for the "overwhelming welcome" and the "consequent happiness at being able to now truly plant ourselves in Chicago for a long time to come." In show biz, that translates to a couple of years at least.

The announcement also means open-run shows occupy two major Loop theaters (LaSalle Bank and Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theater, home of "Wicked"), leaving the Cadillac Palace as the sole venue for Broadway in Chicago tours including "The Drowsy Chaperone" and "Sweeney Todd," which open there in the spring.
