Immigrants arrested
Federal immigration officials in Chicago say they've arrested 30 illegal immigrants in Illinois with outstanding deportation orders as part of a six-state operation.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement says there were a total of 225 arrests in Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, New York, Wisconsin and Missouri.
The four-day operation ended Monday. The individuals arrested had outstanding deportation orders to 12 countries including Mexico, Cuba, Guatemala, India and Poland.
In Illinois, those in custody include 24 males and six females. A Homeland Security assistant secretary for ICE says the multistate effort is intended to send a strong message to individuals who disregard the law.
The arrests were part of the Fugitive Operations Program, which was started in 2003.
