Can residents expect any city street help?
The great Elgin Salt Blunder might be the name of the latest chapter in the city of Elgin.
Running out of salt with six real weeks of potential winter weather left is really putting us all into a dangerous situation.
As the unplowed and unsalted streets thaw and refreeze they will become sheets of solid ice posing a serious potential hazard to man and machine.
Our city leaders don't seem too concerned about it, though, as all the streets downtown and in the Douglas Street historic district seemed to get plowed and salted while much of the rest of the city didn't even get a decent plow job.
Also, I am just left to wonder how just a few of the side streets in our neighborhood seemed to get salted, specifically Addison east of Liberty, but no one else in the Lords Park neighborhood west of the park has seen any salt.
Do we have a plan for the rest of the winter and can those of us who are being expected to clear our own streets expect any help from the city?
