Round Lake woman killed by Amtrak train
A 51-year-old Round Lake woman was hit and killed by an Amtrak train Friday evening at the Lake Forest station as she rushed to catch a Metra train.
Jean McNeill was struck and killed instantly about 5:15 p.m. along the Milwaukee District North Line tracks, according to Lake County Coroner Richard Keller.
"She was unfamiliar with riding the train, and in her haste to catch the Metra she wanted, she crossed into the path of an Amtrak train that does not stop in Lake Forest," Keller said.
The Amtrak train was en route from Chicago to Milwaukee, Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said Saturday.
The train was delayed about three hours while police investigated the accident, he said. Nobody on board the train was injured.
Magliari could not say how fast the train was traveling at the time of impact.
Lake Forest police declined to release any information about the accident on Saturday.
