Five-vehicle crash injures eight in Pingree Grove

A five-vehicle crash resulting in eight injuries occurred on Route 72 about 1.5 miles east of Reinking Road, officials said Saturday.

Pingree-Grove firefighters were dispatched to the scene for an accident with injuries at 12:09 p.m., spokesman Bill Misner said. "While en route we were advised multiple vehicles were involved, and extrication was needed."

Firefighters found one van with severe front-end damage, two SUVs with moderate damage, and two pickup trucks with moderate damage.

Three of the eight patients were given advanced life support, Misner said. One was transported by helicopter to Rockford Memorial Hospital. Two were transported by ground to Sherman and Provena St. Josephs hospitals in Elgin, he said.

Huntley, Rutland-Dundee, Burlington and Hampshire fire departments also responded to the scene, Misner said.
