Vote Bill Foster to help human needs
Anyone who says there are no differences between political parties has not been listening to the subject matter of the primary candidates. The differences are dramatic, with one party arguing ideological points and the other emphasizing action to solve our nation's social and economic problems.
During the GOP primary debates, we heard much about lower taxes, smaller government, gay marriages, gun control issues and even interpretation of scripture. All of this was underlined in the concept of freedom of the individual as opposed to the spirit of community.
In contrast, the content of the Democratic debates consistently involved subject matter dealing with the human needs of health care, poverty, housing and educational opportunity. The goals and aspiration of the Democratic Party seem to be more in tune with the biblical concepts of "brother's keeper," the "Good Samaritan" and "love of one's neighbors."
Since more than 75 percent of professing Christians vote GOP, one wonders if this represents a significant identity crises as to which "god" is actually being followed.
Keep this in mind when you decide who you want to represent you in Congress from the 14th District. A vote for Jim Oberweis is a vote for continuing the practices that have caused a consistent decline in the level of services and quality of life affecting lower- and middle-income families since the Reagan years.
A vote for Bill Foster will bring hope for progressive thinking that will put human needs before ideology.
