Mark Kirk deserves to be re-elected

A recent New York Times editorial raised some very serious questions about what our country is facing internationally and what the presidential candidates may or may not be saying on the campaign trail.

The editors strongly encouraged voters to demand that the candidates give substantial answers to the problems we face with Iran, China, Russia, non proliferation of nuclear weapons technology, terrorism, the Middle East and North Korea.

This is good advice especially for those of us living in the 10th district as the November election looms large on the local and national landscape.

We have a real clear choice in our own candidates for Congress. Whether we want to think about it or not, our world has become a more dangerous place. Our nation faces some of its most serious problems in a generation. No matter who gets elected president, he or she will have to work with Congress to make us safer, bring back our economy, do something about health care and deal with the ongoing struggles in the international community.

It's times like these when we need experienced leadership in Congress. More than ever we need to re elect Congressman Mark Kirk.

On China and Iran, Kirk is the co-chair for both the China and Iran Study Groups. He has made numerous trips to China meeting with leaders to confront the economic challenges from that country as well as bringing pressure to bear on the toxic chemicals found in Chinese foods and toys exported to the United States.

On Iran, Kirk has a deep understanding of the threat that country poses especially to our closest ally in that region, Israel.

Kirk's outstanding record on domestic issues such as the environment, education, the economy, transportation, health care, choice, gun control and his bi-partisanship has earned him the respect of his colleagues, our regional media and repeated endorsements of national advocacy groups.

Simply put, Congressman Mark Kirk deserves to be re-elected. He's worked hard for us and for our country.

That's why I am supporting him for re-election this November.
