CLC's spending needs scrutinized
I feel obliged to comment on your recent article in the business section regarding CLC's overseas recruitment (Feb. 16).
I believe that most Lake County taxpayers think that CLC's mission is to provide low-cost education to the residents of Lake County. Why and how do they justify having a program and position to recruit foreign students?
The article (a brief referring to a BusinessWeek article) refers to a Ms. Schofield, the coordinator, returning from a fall recruiting trip to Asia and the West Indies, responsible for recruiting two of the 105 international students.
A program that provides housing assistance, airport pick up and other services tailored to their needs. CLC is a county, state and federal grant-supported school. We often read about the need to raise tuition while the administration is spending funds on an international program -- the same administration that schedules spring training tours in Arizona for scholarship players on boys baseball and girls softball teams. Where are the low cost providers and watchdog groups responsible to the taxpayers and students and their parents who are paying the bills for this extravagant use of tuition and public funds ?
