Photographers gain access to high school playoffs
A timeout has been called in a dispute over news photographers' access to Illinois high school sports events. The Illinois High School Association on Friday suspended its requirement that photojournalists sign a waiver before being allowed into media areas. The waiver limited how newspapers could use photos from the events. Dropping the requirement means newspapers will be able to cover the girls championship basketball tournament this weekend without giving up their right to resell photos. The IHSA said the decision was a "good faith gesture" as the group and the Illinois Press Association try to hammer out a compromise. Neither side would disclose the specifics of the discussions.
