Credit card use leads to charges against parolee

After some basic police work and a big break from the burglar, East Dundee police Thursday arrested an Algonquin man -- at his parole office, officials said.

Peter A. Ramon, 27, of 1730 Dorchester Ave. in Algonquin, was charged with felony residential burglary, felony theft, misdemeanor unlawful use of a credit card and misdemeanor use of a credit card of another.

In a Jan. 4 home burglary on the 200 block of South VanBuren Street in East Dundee, golf clubs, a golf bag, a power drill and saw combination, a cigar box with more than $75 in coins and a credit card were stolen.

The burglar activated the new credit card from the telephone in the home he burglarized, police said.

Over the next month, unauthorized charges came in on the credit card from West Dundee stores and a motel in Norridge.

When the last credit card charge was investigated, the burglar's state identification card number was on the motel registration card, police said.

When Ramon reported to his parole office for a drug charge Thursday, he was greeted by East Dundee police.

He was unable to post a $15,000 bond and was taken to the Kane County jail.

His next court appearance is scheduled for March 6 at the Kane County Judicial Center.
