Chicago-bound flight makes emergency landing at Manchester
LONDON -- Manchester Airport says a Chicago-bound American Airlines plane made an emergency landing after a pilot noticed a hydraulic problem in mid-flight.
Airport spokeswoman Zoe Ensor says the landing was made at 2:10 p.m. Saturday after the plane's hydraulic warning light went off about an hour into the flight.
Ensor says the landing tore the plane's tires and the aircraft had to be towed off the runway. She says operations at the airport had to be suspended for about two hours. She adds that the suspension has caused the diversion 17 incoming flights, but that operations at the airport have now returned to normal.
Ensor says the 195 passengers aboard the flight disembarked the plane normally.
