Fox Valley Sports Academy to host special softball clinic

The Fox Valley Sports Academy, the Chicago Bandits and the Rockford Thunder will team up for a one-night softball all-skills clinic on Friday, April 4, at the Fox Valley Sports Academy Field House.

Players will work in a group-lesson environment and participate in different skill and drill areas in a "circuit training" rotation.

In addition to a great night of instruction with professional softball players, youth softball players who attend a clinic will have the opportunity to have their picture taken with Chicago Bandits and Rockford Thunder players, as well as participate in an exclusive autograph session following each session.

All-skills clinic sessions are available for players 12U as well as 14U. Cost for the 90-minute clinic is $45 per player/per session and includes a camp T-shirt.

Registration is taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Each session is limited to the first 36 players who register.

Gilberts youth football: The Gilberts Grizzlies youth football program will be holding registration for all District 300 students grades K-8 beginning on Saturday, March 1, from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Eagles Club in the first-floor meeting room in Gilberts.

The Gilberts Youth Football program participates in the Pop Warner Youth Football League which includes teams from Elgin and Hoffman Estates. The top teams will be seeded in a playoff system at the end of the regular season, and will play for a Super Bowl championship.

Depending on how many players in each weight class, each weight/age division will be split into on Big 10 team and as many Pac-10 teams as players are available. Everyone will be on a team and will play.

The program is governed by the Gilberts Youth Football and Cheer Association and is not in any way operated by or associated with the Rutland Township Park District or School District 300.

To register, please bring a copy of your child's birth certificate, a copy of your health insurance card, a registration payment of $300 for football and/or $150 for cheerleading and a refundable equipment deposit check (no cash) for $300 for football and $100 for cheerleading (This deposit check will not be cashed). The check will be held until the end of the season and equipment turn in.

Multiple children registration discount will be given of $25 per child after the first full registration payment for families in cheerleading or football. A late $50 fee will be assessed after the April 19 registration date.

Basketball players wanted: The World Class Basketball Association, which has a national reputation of preparing players to play high school basketball, is seeking players for the 2008 Spring AAU/travel basketball season in grades 5-8 who are serious about the game of basketball and have a desire to play high school basketball in the future.

FVSA spring break camps: The Fox Valley Sports Academy is holding its annual spring break baseball and softball camps March 24-28.

Spring break camps are available for baseball and softball players and feature an all-skills format where players will learn hitting, pitching, fielding, throwing, baserunning and more. Baseball camps feature sessions for 8-10 year-olds, 10-12 year-olds and 13-15 year-olds, while softball camps are available for players 10-14 years old.

There is a registration fee of $125 per player, per camp for the entire week of spring break, Monday-Friday. All spring break camps will meet at the academy's field house location on Mason Road in Elgin. Spring break camps run for 1½ hours daily. Sessions are separated by age and scheduled during the morning and early afternoon hours.
